Graduating BDSc (Hons) (UQ) in 1988, and MDSc (Perio) (UQ) in 1992, Rod was appointed senior registrar at Westmead Hospital. In 1995 he was made lecturer in periodontology at UQ and completed his FRACDS (Perio) in 2000. Appointed senior lecturer in 2001, Rod is a fellow of a number of international academies and has lectured across Australia and internationally. He has held executive positions for ASP, ANZAP, RACDS and IADR.
In addition to teaching and authoring over 30 papers in the international literature, Rod now maintains a full time specialist practice in Brisbane and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Queensland and was elected a Life Member of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists in 2024.
